One Simple Addition. Relief That Lasted a Full Year.
Adding a cervical orthotic kept patients pain-free for 12 months.
Most neck pain treatments focus on short-term relief. This study asked a bigger question:What actually keeps neck pain from coming back?
The answer was surprisingly simple.
The study
Researchers followed two groups of patients who all started with chronic neck pain and forward-head posture.
Both groups completed the same 10-week rehab program, which included:
Therapeutic exercises to strengthen the neck and shoulders
Manual adjustments to restore joint motion
Education on posture and daily ergonomics
The only difference? One group added a cervical orthotic (Denneroll) designed to restore the natural curve of the neck.

What happened one year later?
At the 12-month follow-up, the difference was clear:
The rehab-only group slowly drifted back toward their original posture and pain levels.
The Denneroll group maintained their improved neck curve, kept forward-head posture reduced, and continued to report low pain and minimal disability.
In other words: Temporary relief versus lasting correction.
Why that matters (and how they measured it)
Researchers didn’t just ask, “Do you feel better?” They used objective measurements.
🔹 Neck Disability Index (NDI)
The NDI measures how much neck pain interferes with daily life—work, sleep, driving, and concentration.
The Denneroll group stayed well below the disability threshold after one year
The rehab-only group did not
🔹 Nerve signal testing
Advanced nerve tests (DSSEPs and N13–N20 conduction time) showed that patients using the cervical orthotic maintained faster, healthier nerve signaling—a sign of improved nervous system function, not just symptom relief.
What this means for you
This study reinforces a powerful truth:
Correcting spinal structure protects results. Treating symptoms alone does not.
A single, well-designed cervical traction device, used correctly, can help prevent the return of neck pain—without endless appointments, medications, or guesswork.
When the neck’s natural curve is restored, the nervous system works better, stress on the spine decreases, and pain is far less likely to return.
The Chiropatrick approach to lasting results
At Chiropatrick Chiropractic, we don’t stop once pain goes away. We focus on keeping it gone.
Our long-term neck health strategy may include:
Corrective cervical traction to restore and maintain proper spinal alignment
Periodic maintenance traction (often just once per month after initial correction)
Annual functional-medicine labs to identify hidden inflammation or nutrient deficiencies that affect nerve health
Lifestyle coaching including sleep optimization and stress-reduction strategies to keep the nervous system calm and resilient
This integrated approach helps patients maintain results—not just for months, but for years.
